Leak suggest that Dimension 9000 could be cheaper than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
November 26, 2021
Mediatek announced the Dimension 9000 processor last week. It is position as the company’s first fully develope premium flagship processor. The new chipset is expect to outperform Qualcomm’s 2022 flagship Silicon.
Those who expect similar cheap MediaTek-powered phones like the Dimension 1200-powered OnePlus Nord 2 and Realme X7 Max may be disappointed. The Weibo Tipster digital chat station claims that Dimension 9000 is almost double the price of Dimension 1200.
The leaker further claims that the new Mediatek chipset is still cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Of course, cheaper component prices do not guarantee that phone manufacturers will deliver savings to consumers. It is also possible that prices for the new MediaTek processor will vary by phone brand and order size. But that raises the possibility that the Dimension 9000 phone could be cheaper than a similarly equipped Snapdragon phone next year.
For what it is worth, MediaTek previously had a reputation for offering cheaper processors than Qualcomm. Thus, it’s not entirely surprising to hear that its latest flagship SoC could be cheaper than the new Snapdragon Silicone.
The digital chat station also insists that Mediatek is working on Dimension 7000 SoC using Cortex-A78 cores and 5nm process. Redmi’s general manager Lu Weibing also mentioned “Dimension 7000” on Weibo this week. Thus, it certainly looks like MediaTek has a less capable chipset to be release soon.
In any event, we have contact MediaTek to comment on the pricing claim and will update the article if / when it is return to us.
