I don’t know about you but I am a big fan of the Marvel cinematic universe. If you are a fan of Marvel comics, you are likely aware of J.A.R.V.I.S. J.A.R.V.I.S is a Tony stark’s personal artificial intelligence (AI) program.
J.A.R.V.I.S manage the entire operation of stark’s industries, hack other machines or computer, helps Tony stark while operating his suit and other cool stuff. However, J.A.R.V.I.S also has a distinct personality, sometimes dispose taunting and intelligence, certain programmed in by stark. Moreover, J.A.R.V.I.S also helps to calculate flight data, weather prediction and almost every object of stark industries. Thus, with this evolution of machine learning and artificial machine learning developing involve, us to create AI like a J.A.R.V.I.S.
However, from seeing the current situation we are nowhere close to create a real-life J.A.R.V.I.S in near future. Right now one of the best and most powerful AI programs we have is IBM’S Watson. Watson comes in 2011 as a contestant on jeopardy in a special broadcast. After that commercial use of Watson start in 2013. Watson is a highly intelligence system capable of high-level program for execution and organization.
Let’s come to it’s Hardware features, Watson uses a cluster of 90 IBM power 750 servers, each with a 3.5 GHZ processer and 16 terabytes of RAM. This seems very good in looking, but making a system that can process human language, give suggestion, analyze complex data and automate work requires all this resources. However, with 3.5 GHZ processer allows Watson to process the equivalent of one million books per second. And the cost of watson’s Hardware is approximately 300 million dollars.
Talk about Watson, all the data Watson had access to had to be stored on the machine’s RAM because it would not have been able to access it within a driving time mounting if it was keep on the machine’s Hare drive. Moreover, when Watson is round on jeopardy, solid state drives have started to emerge. Which would allow information on that is used more often to be accessed at a faster rate than if the same information was stored on a standard hard drive.
Also, the machine learning is not as easy as we think it is. The AI program we have present can’t compare to J.A.R.V.I.S. J.A.R.V.I.S also understand the human language, not like the machines way. The AI system available right now failed, when it comes to unsupervised learning.
Last but not least, IBM’s Watson emerge to be a step in the direction to making AI like J.A.R.V.I.S. considering the advance technology and quantum computing there is still hope to create a AI like J.A.R.V.I.S in near future.
