Google may announce custom-designed chips for Chromebooks in 2023

Google upcoming Pixel devices is expect to be the company’s first smartphones. That is come with their own, custom-design Tensor SoCs. According to sources, Google is apparently planning to launch their in-house chips for future tablets and Chromebooks, starting in 2023. However, Google has already disclose that they will be using their custom-designed Tensor chips to run the Pixel 6 series smartphones. Additionally, the ‘Tensor’ comes from the chips called Tensor processing unit (TPU). That Google released back in 2016 for data centre cloud workloads. Which has required artificial intelligence acceleration.

Also in the smartphone space, Google has some experience in chip making. Where they launched the Pixel Visual Core with the Pixel 2 series. If the in-house chip venture becomes successful for Google, it is only natural that the company expands the portfolio. And also introduce Tensor chips into future tablets and Chromebooks. According to Google, tensor is highly scalable. Which makes it much easier to power up or down the capabilities of the chip based on the need. Further, chromebooks in certain have observed enormous growth in the last two years, and Google will absolutely be looking to take edge of that.
